✝️ The Stations of the Cross

1st Friday Lenten Devotion

Jesus carrying the Cross on the road to Calvary during the Passion journey

During Lent, the Stations of the Cross invite us to walk spiritually with Christ on His journey to Calvary.

Each station reflects not only His suffering but also our own struggles, weaknesses, and need for grace.

On this First Friday of Lent, may this devotion help us examine our lives, surrender harmful habits, and draw closer to God through prayer and reflection.

To understand the deeper meaning of this season, read more about Lent here.

1. Jesus is condemned to death

📖 “Pilate handed Him over to be crucified.” (Matthew 27:26)

Lord, we often choose things that slowly harm us — endless scrolling, unhealthy habits, and choices that distance us from You.
Help us to choose life.

2. Jesus carries His Cross

📖 “Carrying the cross Himself, He went out.” (John 19:17)

We try to escape discomfort through distractions instead of carrying our crosses.
Teach us to face life with courage.

3. Jesus falls the first time

📖 “He was pierced for our transgressions.” (Isaiah 53:5)

We fall again into the same temptations — comfort, dependency, and excess.
Give us strength to rise.

4. Jesus meets His Mother

📖 “A sword will pierce your own soul too.” (Luke 2:35)

In moments of weakness, may we turn to the loving guidance of Mary instead of seeking false comforts.

5. Simon helps Jesus carry the Cross

📖 “They forced a passer-by, Simon of Cyrene, to carry His cross.” (Mark 15:21)

Help us to accept help and not isolate ourselves in silent struggles.

6. Veronica wipes the face of Jesus

📖 “Whatever you did for one of the least… you did for Me.” (Matthew 25:40)

May we show compassion to those trapped in addiction and loneliness.

7. Jesus falls the second time

📖 “Though He falls, He shall not be utterly cast down.” (Psalm 37:24)

Even after resolutions, we fall again into habits that enslave us.
Strengthen our perseverance.

8. Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem

📖 “Do not weep for Me; weep for yourselves.” (Luke 23:28)

Turn our hearts from shallow sorrow to true conversion.

9. Jesus falls the third time

📖 “My strength is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)

When we feel powerless before our weaknesses, remind us that Your grace is stronger.

10. Jesus is stripped of His garments

📖 “They divided His garments among them.” (John 19:23)

Free us from attachments to image, validation, and approval.

11. Jesus is nailed to the Cross

📖 “They crucified Him.” (Luke 23:33)

Help us to surrender the habits that bind us.

12. Jesus dies on the Cross

📖 “Father, into Your hands I commend My spirit.” (Luke 23:46)

Through Your sacrifice, break every chain that keeps us from loving You fully.

13. Jesus is taken down from the Cross

📖 “He took the body of Jesus.” (John 19:38)

Heal the wounds caused by our dependencies.

14. Jesus is laid in the tomb

📖 “They laid Him in a tomb.” (Luke 23:53)

Let us bury our old selves and rise renewed.

Lenten Reflection

The Stations of the Cross remind us that suffering is not the end of the story.

Through every fall, every burden, and every surrender, Christ leads us toward renewal and hope.

May this devotion inspire us to walk faithfully, trusting that even in weakness, God’s grace is at work within us.

May we continue this journey with courage and trust in God.

Let this journey lead us closer to the Eucharist, the source of our strength.

Closing Prayer

Lord Jesus,
Free us from everything that keeps us from You.

Help us to live with discipline,
to seek silence over noise,
and to find joy in Your presence.

May we encounter this same sacrifice in every Holy Mass we attend.

May this Lent be a journey from bondage to freedom.

Amen.
