Are We Living in the End Times?<\/h1>\n\n\n\n
A Catholic Understanding of the Signs of the Times<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
In every generation, Christians have looked at world events\u2014wars, disasters, moral confusion, and global uncertainty\u2014and asked the same question:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAre we living in the end times?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today, many people are asking this again. News about wars, political tensions, economic instability, and natural disasters makes some wonder whether the end of the world is near.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But what does the Church actually teach about the end times?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Let us look at Scripture and the teaching of the Church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jesus Warned About Wars and Troubles<\/h2>\n\n\n\nThe Four Horsemen described in Revelation 6 symbolize trials in human history.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
In the Gospel of Matthew<\/strong>, Jesus spoke about difficult events that would occur in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAnd you will hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not alarmed; for this must take place, but the end is not yet.\u201d<\/em> \u2014 Matthew 24:6 (RSV-CE)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jesus explained that throughout history there will be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n
wars and conflicts<\/li>\n\n\n\n
earthquakes and natural disasters<\/li>\n\n\n\n
persecution of believers<\/li>\n\n\n\n
moral confusion in society<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
These events are real, but Jesus said they are not proof that the end has arrived<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He described them as the \u201cbeginning of birth pains.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
No One Knows the Day or Hour<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Jesus made it very clear that no one knows the exact time of the end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBut of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.\u201d<\/em> \u2014 Matthew 24:36 (RSV-CE)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because of this, Christians should be cautious whenever someone claims to know the exact date of the end of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Church\u2019s Teaching About the End<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
The Catechism of the Catholic Church<\/strong> explains that before the return of Christ the Church will pass through a final trial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It states:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBefore Christ\u2019s second coming the Church must pass through a final trial that will shake the faith of many believers.\u201d<\/em> \u2014 CCC 675<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This does not mean the Church will be defeated. Rather, this trial will ultimately lead to the victory of Christ<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Hope of the Book of Revelation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
The final book of the Bible, the Book of Revelation<\/strong>, is often misunderstood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was written to encourage Christians who were suffering persecution and to remind them that Christ will ultimately triumph.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The book ends with a beautiful prayer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe who testifies to these things says, \u2018Surely I am coming soon.\u2019 Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!\u201d<\/em> \u2014 Revelation 22:20 (RSV-CE)<\/p>\n\n\n\nThe New Jerusalem described in Revelation 21\u201322, symbolizing God\u2019s final victory and eternal life with Him.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
Common Misunderstandings About the End Times<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Many people misunderstand the message of the end times in the Bible. Some believe every war or disaster means the world will end immediately. Others try to predict exact dates for the return of Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, the Church reminds us that no one knows the day or the hour of Christ\u2019s return. The purpose of biblical prophecy is not to create fear but to encourage faithfulness and hope. Christians are called to live every day in readiness, trusting in the promise that Christ will ultimately bring justice, peace, and eternal life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
